Amongst the many search engines found on the internet, there are only a few search engines that stand out from the rest.

And as such, these high traffic search engines are the most important search engines to be listed on.

The top major search engines are:

- Google
- Yahoo!
- Bing
- MSN/Live
- Ask
- AOL Search

Google, Yahoo and Bing rule the internet taking in 90% of the searches performed online. Furthermore, it’s Google and Yahoo who provide the rest of the major search engines with their search results as well.

Google however, remains the top major search engine providing the most search results for all the major search engines and continues to be the top major search engine online. And as such, it important to get listed on Google as Google will provide the rest of the search engines with your listings as well. And if it came down to listing your site on just one search engine, then Google would be that one main search engine to have your site listed on and it will continue to be the most important search engine for many years to come.

After your site has been indexed by Google, the rest of the search engines will find your site from Google search engine results. Furthermore, you don’t even have to submit your site to Google. The Google spider crawls the internet daily, seeking new websites to add to its’ vast database.

Once your website is live and online then Google will find your site and add it to their database within a matter of days.

You don’t have to submit your website to any search engines online. All you have to do is build your website, fill out your title meta tags and add content to your website. And within a matter of days your site will be found, indexed and added to not only Googles’ database but to the rest of the top search engine database systems as well. And this is just one reason why Google has become the most important search engine in the world.

Google www.google.com

Google is the most popular and largest crawler-based search engine on the internet. It is the most sought after search engine for both publishers and advertisers as well. And Google has many special features to help the user find exactly what they're looking for.

Publishers and website owners choose Google as the most important search engine to be listed on while advertisers choose Google to advertise their website, products and services online since Google gets them the most exposure for their advertising dollars. And most importantly, there are more internet users using Google to perform searches online than any other major search engine in the world. And this is why Google is the first choice for users, publishers and advertisers as well.

Google also offers two of the most popular advertising programs online such as Google AdWords for the advertiser and Google AdSense for the publisher. And both of these advertising systems have become very profitable for all parties involved.

Google receives over 1 billion unique visitors per month. And there are many reasons why people choose Google over every other search engine out there today. But for the Internet storefront owner, Google is the most important search engine to be listed on for maximum exposure online.

Yahoo www.yahoo.com

Yahoo!, the world's most visited home page, is another major and popular search engine with millions of visitors per month and is also one of the oldest search engines as well.

Yahoo was first started as an internet directory where people organized and placed websites into their own categories, such as business & economy, computer & Internet, education and health etc. And these main directories were, and still are, broken into sub-directories and sub-categories as well.

Soon after, Yahoo switched over to crawler-based listings for its’ main search results but still kept its’ directory listings in tact as well. However, not many internet users use the Yahoo directory any more and instead prefer to do their own searches online, manually, by typing in keywords and keyword phrases.

Yahoo also offers a robust shopping network as well. Users use Yahoo Shopping to shop at hundreds of Yahoo approved stores online. And Yahoo shopping categories include clothing & accessories, computers, electronics, DVDs, music, books and more. And this is just one more reason why users flock to Yahoo daily.

Yahoo also sells pay-per-click advertising across the Yahoo network as well which brings in more publishers and advertisers to Yahoo. And overall, Yahoo pulls over 100 million visitors per month, easily.

Bing www.Bing.com

Bing is another dominant and high traffic search engine on the Internet today and is also known as the decision engine – the search engine that helps you to make better decisions. And just like Google and Yahoo, Bing also delivers excellent search results as well. Furthermore, Bing offers a related search menu on the side and in the footer section of the search results with more related search options and search categories to help narrow down your search.

For example, if a user were to perform a search on Bing for Dell Laptops, they would get a few advertised sponsored listings first, followed by the Dell manufacturers’ website, and then price comparison listings along with product images as well. After that, they would find multiple websites selling Dell laptops online. And this is a typical feature in other major search engines as well.

However, when performing a general search on Bing for Dell Laptops the user will also get a related search menu displaying the following related search categories:

Cheap Dell Laptop Computer
Dell Inspiron
Dell Latitude
Top 10 Laptops
Dell Official Site
Dell Laptop Computer Prices
Dell Laptops for Sale
Cheap Dell Laptop

The user or potential customer can search through and click on any of the main search results or use any of the helpful search result options on the side, which in turn can help the customer make better decisions online. And this is just one of the reasons why Bing has become one of the top major search engines and indeed is also a decision making engine as well.

MSN/Live www.msn.com

MSN/Live is a major part of the Microsoft network and is Microsoft’s’ main portal, which offers MSNBC News, sports, MSN Money, games, videos, entertainment, celebrity gossip, weather, shopping and more great content, as well as Windows Live services such as Hotmail and Messenger as well. However, when performing a search on MSN the user is directed to the Bing search engine and looking at search results on Bing. And the reason being is because MSN and Bring are both part of the Microsoft Network with Bing serving MSN with its’ search results. So when a user is searching on MSN, they’re really searching on Bing.

Nevertheless, millions of visitors continue to visit MSN/Live for news, games entertainment, Hotmail and messenger as well, which makes MSN/Live another high traffic, top ranking search engine.

Ask www.ask.com

Ask.com has been labeled by experts as the Internets’ #1 question answering service that delivers the best answers from the web and real people as well.

Every day, millions of internet users go to Ask.com to ask personal, professional, and business questions as well. At Ask.com, their goal is to answer your questions with the best information from the web and from real live people.

On Ask.com, which used to be known as the “natural language” search engine, you can ask any questions as if you were asking and speaking to an actual person. And the response you would get would seem as if it came from an actual real person while providing the best and most accurate answers to all of your questions. However, Ask.com now utilizes a crawler based technology search engine to provide search results for all its users. Yet even with a crawler based search engine, Ask.com delivers high quality search results which keeps millions of users visiting the Ask.com website daily which makes Ask a top ranking search engine.

Once your site is listed on Google, then sooner or later, Ask.com will find and index your website as well. And if a user asks a question concerning the products you sell, then your site would show up on the Ask.com search results in response to the users’ question.

AOL Search search.aol.com

AOL is a leading-edge web service company offering news, sports, stock quotes, weather reports, movie reviews, TV trends and more. AOL also offers free email, AIM access, online radio, videos and horoscopes, all of which keeps visitors and users coming back to AOL.com daily.

AOL search results are supplied by Googles’ database along with search results from AOL and AOL partners as well. And AOL users are more likely to use AOL Search over other major search engines seeing that AOL provides the same search results and offers personal services to AOL users as well, such as free email and AIM. AOL also has an editorial team creating unique content experiences across the AOL network.

The AOL Homepage reaches 45 million U.S. users per month with rich media placements and topnotch content on one of the world's most frequented pages which makes AOL another top ranking search engine online. And to be found on AOL, all you have to do is be listed on Google. AOL users will find you on AOL since AOL uses Google search results as well. And as long as you’re site is listed on Google, then AOL users will find your website online.

Other search engines

Although the search engines listed above are the most important search engines in the world, Google, Yahoo and Bing being the most important, there are still more search engines which receive a significant amount of traffic as well. And many of the following search engines have also managed to accumulate loyal users which visit their home pages daily. However, just as with every other search engine online, most, if not all of the following search engines obtain their search results from Google, Yahoo and Bing. And if you’re listed on Google then you’ll be listed on these as well:
