DVD’s are top sellers on the
internet and offline as well. And New DVD
releases are released weekly by all major
studios, (typically released on Tuesdays of
every week).
With the advent of Blu-ray releases, studios now
rely on both Blu-ray and DVDs to supplement
their revenue for a particular movie. HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc were released as the
successor to DVD. HD DVD competed successfully
with Blu-ray Disc in the format war.
However, unlike previous format changes, there
is no immediate indication that production of
the standard DVD will gradually wind down, as
they still dominate, with around 75% of video
sales and approximately one billion DVD player
sales worldwide. |

In fact, experts claim that the DVD will remain
the dominant medium. Yet it is still commonplace
for major releases to be issued in "combo pack"
format, including both a DVD and a Blu-ray disc.
Furthermore, a large majority of consumers are
satisfied with DVDs. And the DVD succeeded
because it offered a compelling alternative to
VHS.
And when it comes to home entertainment, home
video DVD’s out sell feature films and movies.
The incredible success of DVD video has
propelled home video to become America’s most
popular entertainment medium, surpassing
consumer spending on movie tickets, music and
mass-market books.
According to the DVD Entertainment Group,
consumers spent more than twice as much buying
and renting DVDs as they did going to the
movies.
DVD now represents 75 percent of home video
consumer spending, driven by DVD retail sales
which increased to over $9 billion.
Consumers spent an additional $3 billion renting
DVDs, bringing total DVD spending to $12
billion. Simply put, DVD’s are top sellers
online and offline as well.
